Paula Ammerman ’96
Paula Ammerman maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Hyde Park, where she works with individuals and couples. Additionally, she has taught social work at Loyola University of Chicago and The University of Chicago, and she is currently a faculty member at ICSW. She is also an active member of the Children’s Psychotherapy Project: A Home Within, which provides long-term pro bono services to children in the foster care system. Dr. Ammerman’s research topic at ICSW focused on the functions of countertransference in working with clients who have character disorders. Her work in this area is ongoing, and she speaks regularly about this subject, including a presentation titled “Hate as an Enactment in the Relational Paradigm.”

Judith Aronson ’08
Judith Aronson has a private psychotherapy practice in Evanston and Chicago. She specializes in individual, couple, and adolescent therapy. Steven L. Batten ’98
Steven Batten has a private psychotherapy and consultation practice. He provides a psychodynamically oriented clinical practice for adults utilizing individual, couples, and group psychotherapy. Carol Baumann is the director of the Northern Region for the Utah Division of Child and Family Services. She oversees six counties and approximately 260 employees for child welfare in northern Utah. Dr. Baumann has also been an adjunct professor at Utah State University since 1999.

Michael R. Bizzarro ’03
Michael Bizzarro is currently the executive director of New Insights Centers for Counseling, LLC, a counseling entity he formed in 1992 that provides individual, family, and group counseling and specializes in addictive disorders and issues related to law enforcement. Dr. Bizzarro also works as a consultant in the EAP department of a major pharmaceutical company and is a member of a critical incident response team for law enforcement and their families. In September 2009, he was appointed Field Advisor for the Columbia University School of Social Work, and he is currently working on a book and several articles.

Noel L. Blackburn ’06
Noel L. Blackburn is currently working in private practice in Evanston with adults, children, and adolescents, primarily on an individual basis. Alexander Brown ’03
Alexander Brown is currently serving as Clinical Director at Metropolitan Family Services, a 500-person, multi-service agency in Cook and DuPage counties. He is responsible for managing all aspects of clinical program planning, development, and standards, as well as facilitating strategic planning, conducting oversight of the grievance process and response, and representing the agency to outside organizations. Thetis R. Cromie ’04
Thetis Cromie is in private practice. Her office is located at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, where she sees children and adults in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. She has several control cases in psychoanalysis supervised by training analysts at the Chicago Institute. Kenneth Cunningham ’04
Kenneth Cunningham is in private practice with two psychiatric groups: APEX Behavioral Health in Brownstone, Mich., and Comprehensive Behavioral Health in Maumee, Ohio. He also sees patients in his home office in the Old West End of Toledo, Ohio. Amy Eldridge ’91
Amy Eldridge is the Dean at ICSW and also maintains a private practice. As Dean, she is responsible for ICSW’s academic programs, including curriculum development, educational policy, and faculty leadership. She also has executive responsibilities for finances and operations. She reports to the Board of ICSW, works very closely with faculty and staff to ensure the quality of ICSW’s programs, and teaches and consults with students. Dr. Eldridge also has a private practice serving downtown Chicago and the north suburbs where she focuses on children, adolescents, and adults using psychoanalysis from a contemporary perspective, as well as psychotherapy and consultation. In addition, she consults with clinicians on their work. She has been honored by the Josselyn Center for Mental Health and by the National Academies of Practice as a Distinguished Practitioner of Clinical Social Work. She co-chaired the 2009 Conference of the International Association of the Psychology of the Self and was recently appointed to the executive board of that organization.

Helene Ellis ’96

Freda Baron Friedman ’02

Lola K. Himrod ’95

Barry J. Koch ’05
Barry J. Koch is an assistant professor and field coordinator at Newman University in Colorado Springs, Col. He teaches advanced clinical courses to second-year M.S.W. students and has created two elective courses for the program. He has also been doing research with a colleague to study the link between eating disorders and sexual victimization, the results of which were presented at the Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault Conference and at the NASW Colorado Conference. Dr. Koch is currently working on an article about crisis hotline management of clients suffering with Borderline Personality Disorder. His specialities include crisis intervention, suicide, psychotherapy with adults, and psychopathology. Since January 2009, Dr. Koch has been volunteering with a project in El Paso County, Col., to improve the operation of the local suicide prevention hotline.

Sandra Kryder ’97

Beatriz E. Ledesma ’09
Beatriz Ledesma has been in private practice in Chicago since 1995. Her areas of specialty include community mental health, hospitals, and court advocacy, as well as clinical supervision to LCPCs and consultation and teaching trainees in art psychotherapy. Mike McNulty ’00
Mike McNulty maintains a full-time, private practice in Evanston and Highland Park, Ill., where he specializes in individual and couples therapy. He is certified in couples therapy through The Gottman Institute (TGI) in Seattle, and he is a consultant and trainer for TGI’s professional development program. His other sub-specialties include trauma, attention deficit disorder, and learning disabilities. Dr. McNulty also serves as the director of The Sri Lanka Project at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where he is also an adjunct professor. He provides counselor training for a unit of 35 paraprofessional Sri Lankan counselors, and he travels to Sri Lanka twice a year to teach 10-day workshops.

Jean Mirabella ’99
Jean Mirabella was a clinician at Oak Lawn Family Services for 25 years, and she also took on several positions at Catholic Charities of Chicago during that time. She began her career at Charities as a clinician, then she became the director of staff development and education, then the director of child protection services, and finally the director of quality improvement and data analysis. Dr. Mirabella currently works at Lutheran Services of Florida as the director of quality improvement and data analysis. She specializes in helping battered women, child abuse, and individual and couples therapy.

Timothy C. Okeke ’03
Timothy Okeke is currently the chair/field placement coordinator and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the social work program and student internship at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. He performs research on aging issues, including older adult health and care, and health care delivery models in sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Okeke is also interested in gang prevention and ex-offender recidivism in Rowan County, NC.

Myrna Orenstein’s clinical interest is working with adolescents and adults whose learning gaps create painful emotional experiences that obstruct the growth of potential. Ida Roldan ’99
Ida Roldan maintains a private practice in Oak Park and Chicago, providing consultation and psychoanalytic psychotherapy to adolescents and adults; she is bilingual/bi-cultural and specializes in working with Latino populations.She has been a clinical consultant at Children‘s Place since 1995, was awarded a fellowship at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis in 1998, and has been an advisor for the BRIGHTEN (Bridging Resources of an Interdisciplinary Gero-mental Health Team) program for the elderly at Rush Medical Center, Stroger Hospital, and Alivio Medical Center since 2008. Dr. Roldan has also served as an ICSW faculty member since September 2008, is a co-chair of the Board of Directors of Corazon Community Services in Cicero, and is a board member of SGA Youth and Family Services in Chicago.

Scott Harms Rose ’04
In addition to serving as the director of Mental Health Services at the Center on Halsted, Scott Rose serves as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, a faculty member at ICSW, and an adjunct lecturer at the University of Chicago. In his private practice, he works with adults, couples, and adolescents and their families. He also works with men and women, both gay and straight, adolescents from demanding academic programs, and people affected by HIV/AIDS. Dr. Rose has also held a fellowship in the Research Training Programme in the International Psychoanalytical Association at the University College London.

Janet Marie Schwind ’98
Janet Marie Schwind is currently in independent private practice with a focus on issues of attachment, emotional development, and trauma for children, adolescents, and adults. She also studies at the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute, where she is a candidate for Advanced Adult and Advanced Child certification. In June 2009, she completed additional training at the International Society for Study of Trauma and Dissociation. Michelle Sweet ’01
Michelle Sweet provides individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults. She also offers conjoint therapy to couples and parents. Linda Tartof ’92
Linda Tartof is currently working as the clinical director at the Student Counseling and Resource Service department of the University of Chicago. She does direct practice in addition to supervising therapists, helping the department operate within the greater university system, and doing outreach and consultation for the university community as a whole. Dr. Tartof has also served as an adjunct professor at the Loyola University School of Social Work. Her particular area of focus is the mental health concerns of college and graduate students.

Billie P. Terrell ’03
Billie P. Terrell has been an active member of the University of St. Francis community for thirty-four years. She began as a student there in 1977, became adjunct faculty in 1984, and has been a full-time faculty member for the last seventeen years. She has served as the Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) Programs’ Field Director, Program Director, and Chair, and became the Chair and Director of the Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program in May 2006. She was promoted to Professor in 2008 after having been an Associate Professor for the prior five years. Dr. Terrell specializes in individual and family treatment from a multicultural perspective.

Boris Thomas ’09
In addition to his full-time Chicago private practice, in which he provides psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy to individuals and couples, Boris Thomas also co-leads ICSW’s Professional Enrichment Committee (formerly Continuing Education) with fellow ICSW graduate, Gail DeLyser ’07. He is currently an adjunct faculty member at ICSW and has been an adjunct faculty member in DePaul University’s School of Education, Human Services & Counseling. Dr. Thomas was a Fellow in the International Psychoanalytical Association Research Training Program, University College London, and worked as a researcher at Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago.

Leslie A. Westbrook ’01
Leslie Westbrook is in private practice working with individuals, couples, and families in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. She serves on the Board of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, most recently as secretary. In 2003, she completed an eight-year term on the Unitarian Universalist Association committee, which serves as the gatekeeper for Unitarian Universalist ministry and deals with ethics violations within the ministry. While on the committee, she was one of two psychological consultants and vice chair. Dr. Westbrook has served as adjunct clinical faculty for both the Clinical Social Work Institute in Washington, D.C., and the Institute for Clinical Social Work in Chicago.
