Milka Ramírez, Ph.D., LCSW has eight years of higher education teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Ramírez has experience in program development, undergraduate and graduate accreditation, student mentorship and building long lasting community partnerships. Over the last six years she has established a body of scholarly work focusing on LBGTQ+ populations, and has presented in local and national conferences on the topic, and is currently involved in a research study examining help giving resources for LGBTQ+ individuals experiencing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

She is also a licensed school social worker and has over 15 years of practice experience in diverse settings such as: child welfare, schools, juvenile justice, community practice, and mental health; and maintains a small private practice providing Spanish-speaking mental health services with older adults experiencing depression, anxiety and trauma. She is the co-founder of En Las Tablas Performing Arts, a not-for-profit organization in Chicago’s Hermosa community dedicated to providing a safe and affirming space for self-expression and community engagement.

She joined ICSW in 2018 in order to support the Institute’s longstanding tradition of integrating practice and academic training that prepares future practitioners and scholars in addressing the multiple factors impacting contemporary society.

Dr. Ramírez states: “I was drawn to the small and warm environment at ICSW, as well, as its values of diversity and social justice. I believe that the Institute has the potential to reach and train a diverse student body uniquely prepared to impact the lives of people and communities, and I am excited to collaborate with faculty, staff and students, as we forge forward into the mid-21st century.”
