ICSW is saddened to let you know that alumnae Susan Ann McDaniels, PhD, LCSW, (nee Petermann), 67, passed away June 27, 2017. Sue was a dedicated friend who was caring and grateful. She loved to send cards for all occasions and after every gathering. Her cherished friends, as well as many caring members of her church and professional communities who supported her as she struggled with pancreatic cancer, miss her dearly.
Sue received her Bachelor’s Degree from Concordia University in River Forest, IL. She went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Loyola University and a PhD from the Institute for Clinical Social Work.
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 34 years, Sue’s private practice was devoted to working with adults, especially seniors. Her work experience included Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4), Heartland Alliance, Arab American Family Services, Japanese American Service Committee, and In-Home Counseling for Seniors. Throughout her work, she maintained a high standard of excellence. She was committed to her clients and was an advocate for social justice.
After retirement, Sue became involved in Forward Chicago, a community activist organization for seniors and Diakonia, a discipleship intensive, designed to empower lay people to minister in their own communities. In all her efforts, she was committed to diversity, inclusivity, and equity.
