In this presentation we will discuss the ways in which the social location of women psychotherapists of color comes alive in session through their own experience of themselves, their own relationship with the world and personal narratives. We will also pay special attention to the client’s use of the therapist of color as a way to further deepening the process or to defensively stay away from connecting with difference. This will be an opportunity to reflect on our own ways of relating to race, difference and our level of comfort in opening this level of exploration in the therapeutic encounter.
