We are pleased to announce that Dr. Huey L. Hawkins Jr. has been named the 2026 Commencement Speaker.
Huey L. Hawkins, Jr., Ph.D., LCSW, BCS is a psychoanalytically oriented clinical social worker, educator, and scholar whose work bridges depth-oriented clinical practice with critical perspectives on race, development, and relational experience. A graduate of the Institute for Clinical Social Work, where he earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work, Dr. Hawkins currently serves as Core Faculty at ICSW and Lecturer of Social Work at the University of Oklahoma, contributing to the education and training of emerging social workers and clinicians.
Dr. Hawkins maintains a private clinical practice and provides supervision to clinicians across the country, with a focus on psychodynamic psychotherapy, unconscious processes, and the impact of early relational experiences on adult functioning. His scholarship and presentations center on the psychological development of Black boys and men, racial socialization, and the complexities of identity formation within contexts of systemic inequity. His work has been published in leading journals, including Clinical Social Work Journal and Psychoanalytic Social Work, and he is a frequent presenter at national psychoanalytic conferences.
In recognition of his contributions to the field, Dr. Hawkins received the 2025 Selma Fraiberg Award from the American Association of Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work.
As a clinician, teacher, and thought leader, Dr. Hawkins is committed to advancing socially responsive, relationally grounded, and culturally attuned approaches to clinical social work practice.
