Summer Mei Ling Lee, A.B., M.F.A.
Summer Mei Ling Lee (AB Stanford University; MFA San Francisco Art Institute) is an artist and activist who began her career doing direct services, grant reporting, and strategic planning at Asian Women’s Shelter. There she co-authored two federal reports on grass-roots strategies to address relationship violence in the queer Asian community, and co-facilitated the resident support group for over 16 years. This work dovetailed into studying community mental health in graduate school, working with men experiencing severe mental illness in jail. Afterwards, she served as an intern for US Senator Dianne Feinstein. She then pursued her passion and received her MFA in 2011 and since then has exhibited art locally, nationally, and internationally. Her work has been collected into private and public collections throughout the world. She recently co-founded a local organization for environmental protection and promoting truly affordable housing. She also serves on the boards of RAMS inc, a San Francisco-based mental health organization; and the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, California. She is a mom of two boys.
